Double donation refers to fertility treatment using both egg and sperm donors to create an embryo, which is then transferred during the blastocyst stage to the recipient woman’s uterus.
The fertilization process takes place in an IVF laboratory, utilizing sperm microinjection (ICSI), a technique in which sperm is selected based on motility and morphology and then injected into the donor egg with the help of a microneedle.

It’s important to note that double donation should not be confused with other treatments, such as those using donor eggs fertilized with a partner’s sperm or embryo donation, where embryos are donated by patients who have already undergone IVF and completed their family, offering the rest of the embryos to help other couples.

What Are the Advantages of Double Gamete Donation?
The advantages of double gamete donation include higher pregnancy rates and lower rates of miscarriage and chromosomal abnormalities, as both the egg and sperm come from young, healthy donors. It offers the highest success rates of up to 70% per transfer.

When is Double Donation Recommended?
Double donation may be recommended in the following cases:
• When both partners have fertility issues and cannot achieve pregnancy using their own gametes, such as diminished ovarian reserve or azoospermia.
• When both partners are carriers of a hereditary condition, to prevent passing it on to their children.
• For single women with fertility issues, such as low ovarian reserve, advanced maternal age, or poor egg quality.
