During IVF treatment, sometimes more embryos are developed than can be used in a single transfer. IVF Vision offers Embryo Freezing & Storage to give you flexibility for future treatment cycles or to grow your family at a later time.

Could Freezing & Storing of Your Embryos Be Right for You?

Embryo freezing and storage is a routine practice at IVF Vision, and with advanced vitrification techniques, frozen embryos can achieve excellent results.

You may consider freezing and storing your embryos for the following reasons:

  • You’ve had IVF treatment and have extra viable embryos after transfer.
  • You’ve been advised against a fresh embryo transfer at the time of your treatment.
  • You’re not ready to have a baby yet but want to preserve your fertility for the future.

Everyone’s journey is different, and we’ll walk you through every aspect of your treatment to help you make the best decision for your needs.

What Does Embryo Freezing Involve?

During your IVF treatment, after fertilizing your eggs, we’ll keep you informed about how your embryos are developing. If embryos of the right quality remain after fertilization, and if you wish to store them, the following steps are taken:

  1. Special vitrification solutions are used to protect your embryos during freezing.
  2. Embryos are placed in straws, allowing us to track them through storage.
  3. The straws are then frozen in liquid nitrogen at -196°C, with temperature alarms monitored 24/7 to ensure safe storage.

When you’re ready to use your frozen embryos, we carefully thaw them, assess their quality, and prepare them for transfer.

Thawing an Embryo

The process of thawing an embryo is done carefully and typically takes around 8 minutes. Our expert embryologists use a fine pipette to move the embryo through a series of solutions before preparing it for transfer.
